“Micro Terrace FIELD”
Author: chuang qu
NNCI KY multiscale Core: Huson Imaging and characterization lab (HICL)
TOOL: APREO SEM
Description: The hierarchical Field is created by Glancing Angle Deposition (GLAD) on lines using the electron-beam evaporator (MNTC, UofL). The crops on the fields are made of pure carbon (graphite).

“SolarPede”
Author: Ruoshi Zhang
NNCI KY Multliscale Core: Huson Lab (UofL)
Tool: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
Image description:This image is taken from a center-meter size robot named "SolarPede", shown its "feet". These feet were fabricated in the cleanroom out of silicon and been assembled onto the in-plane actuators. They are only 0.1 mm thick, 1.7 mm tall, and 0.7 mm wide.

NNCI KY MULTISCALE CORE: EMC (UK)
TOOL: FEI Helios Nanolab 660
Image description: These couple of images look like lush woods nearby a quiet lake where the water was frozen and the shadow of trees could be barely seen in it, and this fairy forest was surrounded by a peaceful hill, which was located far behind the forest. IN ACTUALITY, it is a cross-section view of tungsten nanoparticles generated by physical vapor deposition technology. Those nanoparticles form a tree structure when they were deposited on a rotated sapphire substrate.
